Bio 

Emily Beam earned her B.A. in Visual Art Studies and her B.S. in Biology (Vertebrate Physiology option) from Penn State University, Altoona College. She graduated in May 2021.  Her work consists of oil paintings, acrylic paintings, colored pencil drawings, and mixed media pieces that often utilize nontraditional objects. Her work is often figure based, and explores anatomy, emotion, and nature. Beam’s work is rooted in her fascination with anatomy and her strong desire to enter the medical field. Her work has been featured in exhibitions in the McLanahan and Sheetz Galleries on the Penn State Altoona Campus as well as in Hard Freight Magazine. Beam’s artwork was selected to be used as the logo for the Penn State Altoona African American Read-in in both 2018 and 2019. Her drawings have also been used for the teaching of  the Mammalian Anatomy Course at Penn State Altoona. Beam was an officer of the  Penn State Altoona Tri-Beta Honor Society -the biological honors society, which she was inducted into in 2019. “Visceral Reactions”, her Solo Exhibition, was displayed in the Sheetz Gallery on the Penn State Altoona Campus April 22 through May 2.
